The APS Kindness Project began in 2025 through the passion, enthusiasm, and shared vision of the Student Leadership Team, who wanted to spread kindness across every part of our school community. This vision came from a story, ‘The Kindness Project’ by Deborah Abela, which inspired the leaders to think about how small actions could create real change at APS. The leaders believed that even small acts of kindness could have a big impact and help students feel more connected, valued, and included.
To introduce this focus and inspire the whole school, they launched a special Kindness Day along with many initiatives like the kindness podcast and kindness challenges in the school newsletter. These activities helped students understand that kindness is not just something we talk about, but something we can practise every day. Building on their initiatives, the 2025 student leaders also worked alongside the P&C to fund the new Kindness Mural, which is now a feature of our school playground.
At the end of 2025, a school-wide survey gathered valuable feedback and revealed that most students felt a strong sense of belonging at Artarmon Public School. These positive outcomes clearly demonstrated the project’s impact and reinforced the importance of continuing our focus on kindness. We marvelled at how even small acts transformed the school culture, making students feel supported and proud to be part of the APS community. This ongoing success is why the APS Kindness Project has continued into 2026.
As the 2026 Leadership Team, our goal is to build on the incredible work started by the 2025 leaders and make an even bigger impact on our school community. Inspired by their efforts, we created this kindness website where you can share acts of kindness you witness at school or in the community like helping a new student who’s lost or sharing an umbrella on a rainy day. Each month, the leaders and SRC will highlight a selection of thoughtful and unique acts to celebrate, showcasing your kindness moments right here.
This page on the school website also supports our Key Focus Areas of the Kindness Curriculum: gratitude, honesty, and self-acceptance.
Gratitude encourages us to appreciate the good around us, honesty helps build trust and stronger relationships, and self-acceptance reminds us to value ourselves fully, including our strengths and imperfections.

In 2026, our commitment to kindness extends beyond our school through our Global Kindness Connection with Ghana. What began with the Pencil Case Project in 2025 has grown into a meaningful partnership, emphasising that kindness transcends distance. This connection is more than fundraising, it’s about learning from one another, sharing gratitude, and fostering lasting bonds between our communities. By working together as a school community, we aim to make kindness an active part of our daily lives, knowing that one kind action can inspire many more, creating a ripple effect that strengthens us all.
